Manchester is one of the best locations in the North of England and a city that has been deemed one of the friendliest in the UK. Many people love the idea of heading to a city with their kids during the summer holidays and Manchester certainly won’t disappoint with things for you to do.

National Football Museum 

The National Football Museum is one place you have to visit if your kids are football fans. A city-centre location it has one of the biggest collections of football memorabilia on display. From football kits to footballs there is something for everyone. Plus you also get the chance to see some of the best trophies. While you are there you can all take part in interactive activities such as the highest speed taking a penalty to practice your ball skills. A great day out for everyone.

Museum of Science and Industry 

Another fantastic location in the city is the Museum of Science and Industry or MOSI as it is known. There are plenty of exhibitions to walk around showcasing history in science and industry. You will also find a great selection of interactive activities where you can learn while you get involved. There are usually one-off exhibits as well so it is always worth checking out the website. 

Manchester Art Gallery 

An art gallery is not usually the first choice for a family, but it can be an incredible way to spend some time. The Manchester Art Gallery is packed full of creative masterpieces. During the school holidays, you will find that there is a lot to see and do, and plenty of activities to get involved with. As an indoor venue, it can also be a great option on a bad weather day.

The Trafford Centre

Outside of the city centre, there is still a lot to do, and The Trafford Centre could be a highlight. One of the largest shopping centres in the UK, there are plenty of shops, lots of restaurants and even a cinema and miniature golf course to enjoy. There is also an incredible amusement arcade so there is always something to do while you are here. Browse the shops or just enjoy the entertainment on offer. 

Legoland Discovery Centre

At The Trafford Centre, there are also additional family attractions that you could utilise during your visit. Legoland Discovery Centre is a world of lego waiting to be explored. There are models to marvel at and a play area where your kids can get creative. During the holidays they usually have special events as well. 

Sea Life Manchester

Additionally to Legoland Discovery, you also have Sea Life Manchester. An indoor aquarium filled with interactive rock pools and lots of tanks marvelling at some of the most exotic fish in the world. Along with Legoland Discovery Centre, there will be a charge for these two attractions at The Trafford Centre, but you may find that there is a deal for purchasing tickets to both sites. A great family day out that everyone can enjoy. 

Play Factore

Sometimes you just want to take your kids to a soft play centre so you can sit down and enjoy a hot beverage and look at your phone. Completely understandable! One of the best soft play centres in Manchester in Play Factore. There are incredible big slides, lot’s to enjoy, and even some arcade games to keep the kids occupied. Plus a lovely separate section for toddlers that will keep them entertained. The cafe offers great food options and you can usually find a deal when looking to attend during the summer holidays.

Chill Factore

Next door to PlayFactore is Chill Factore. This attraction is an indoor ski and sledging centre. Full of snow and lots to do there really is something for everyone here. You can book skiing lessons if your family have always wanted to learn, or book to slide down the snow-filled slopes on inflatable doughnuts or sledges. There is also an area for smaller children to enjoy. Many people love this attraction at Christmas thanks to the authenticity of the surroundings, but it can also be a great summer holiday attraction. Especially if it is warm outside. 

Treetop Trek Manchester 

If you have any adrenalin-seeking fans amongst the family then a stop at Treetop Trek Manchester could be the one for the summer holidays. Nestled in the wooded area of Heaton Park, this attraction is a lot of fun and there is something for all ages. You can go into the treetop nets with younger children as they climb and bounce their way along. Or you can book the tree top adventure that sees you needing to tackle obstacles and balance as you make your way from one tree to the next.

Once you have had your fun there is a lot on offer in Heaton Park such as boats on the lake, plenty of outdoor play areas, and lot’s of space to enjoy a kickabout and a picnic.

Visiting the famous football clubs 

If you have a football fan, and they happen to love one of the two big Manchester teams then you could consider a stadium tour during the summer holidays. Both Manchester United and Manchester City offer stadium tours where you can go into the dressing rooms and sit where the players sit.

You can see where they train, and where they eat and also have a nosey at some of the posh hospitality rooms within the stadium. Plus a stop-off at the gift shop after is a must. This is one day out the kids will love, and it can be educational as well as they often discuss the history of the clubs and their roots.
